ABOUT US
The Rural Development Foundation Association (RDFA) was formed by a group of educated unemployed youths of Senapati district with the theme “Green Earth” under the guidance and patronage of Shri Dominic Loli Adanee, social activist and philanthropist in 1995. It was registered formally the same year under Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989 as a Non-Government Organisation. The main purpose of the RDFA was to revolutionize the standard of living of the underprivileged population of the district by helping them to make a sustainable living for the agrarian populace of the district especially the youths. The Registered office was open at Karong, Senapati District Manipur State -795007.
Senapati known as the land rich in flora and fauna with bright cultural past has begun to unfortunately facing a bleak future due unemployment and lack of opportunities to make a living. With increases in population, unemployment rate also increase especially after the ethnic clash between Naga – Kuki of 1993. Displaced people from different part of the state come and settled here in Senapati. As they have no means of livelihood, they begun to look for easy way of earning to support their family leading to mass destructions of large cultivable forest area for illegal cultivation of Ganja, Poppy etc. People begun to indulge in black business due to lack employment opportunities as well as proximity to the Golden Triangle which make the people highly vulnerable to Drug abuses. Lust for easy and fast money and fashionable lifestyle lure many youths of the district and got involved in trafficking and peddling drugs. Besides these misusing the use of an age old habit of using alcohol by the younger generation degrade our society to a deplorable state. Therefore, the RDFA members though initially come together and form the society to address the unemployment problems of the district witnessing the situation and condition of the people which is correlation to each other, and realising if left uncheck would cause catastrophe and meaningless to our foundation painstakingly took up all round aspect of our life and surrounding. The founding members began activities by addressing the social issues, conducting seminars, workshops, awareness camps on education, preservation of our ecology, health and sanitation, women empowerment, Drug Addiction problems in the Society besides income generation & formation of SHG etc. With no income or funding from any sources, the RDFA endures with little contribution among the members and donation by the well-wishers from time to time. Despite the odds and events the society manages to keep our vision, mission and objective very clear and continue pursue forwards for the welfare of the people.
The RDFA had to endure hardship for long due to shortage of fund to fulfill our aim and objectives. But our long cherishes dreams, voices and prayer was answered in the year 2004, when Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India grant us a 15 bedded Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts which we later christened it as SHANTI GHAR, IRCA. Till date, Shanti Ghar IRCA is the only treatment centre for drugs and alcohol dependence of the district. Through this project, we are able to help many down trodden addicts of our district as well as addicts from other districts of Manipur and neighbouring state Nagaland also. Shanti Ghar IRCA is headed by Adani Kaiho, a recovered drug addict himself with vast experiences, exposure and trainings in the field. His past experiences prove productive in dealing and treating the clients to give up addiction and led a normal life.
We are also blessed with another project in 2005 when the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India grants us a Turmeric Processing Unit. Though Turmeric is found abundantly in our areas, we procuring high curcumin contain rhizomes from different part of the state like RCT-I and RCT –II from ICAR and other part of North Eastern states (Lakadong from Meghalaya) in consultation with ICAR to generate more produce and income. Turmeric Rhizomes were distributed to the local farmers SHG for cultivation with guaranteed to buy back their harvest by the RDFA. We are able to help our farmers to make a sustainable living through the cultivation of Turmeric to some extent, but unfortunately due to some technical problem in procuring the processing machinery and sudden untimely demise of (Late) A Neli, Director, Turmeric Processing Unit, we had delayed the functioning of the Turmeric Processing Units for some time. We have installed the Turmeric Processing Unit at Makhan Tabio which will be functional this harvest season.
Besides the two major projects undertaking by the RDFA, many other project are also implemented by the RDFA in the past like 10 Bedded Community Care Centre (CCC) from 2010-13 for HIV/AIDS, Tree Plantation Prog., ecology prog., and Animal welfare Prog.
